| DRS HISTORY:
Driver Rehabilitation Services Inc. (DRS) was established in 1990 by
Mary Skirrow,
at that time, a 13 year veteran in the field of Driver Education.
DRS was a natural progression from driver education as Mary became
acutely aware of the need for " in-vehicle rehabilitation"-
a program designed to meet the needs of people recovering from motor
vehicle collision trauma. DRS was birthed from a vision and
purpose to provide a post-collision trauma recovery program with a
specialized focus for crash victims experiencing anxiety, fear
phobias, panic attacks, pain issues, brain injury and various other
limitations and conditions resulting from road trauma.
Mary worked alone, out of her home office from 1990, developing
this specialized program with a handful of clients. Her expertise
and reputation spread by word of mouth; client's increased in number
and successful recovery; and in 1996 a fulltime office manager as well
as two new Driving Therapist Interns were brought into training. By
2001, DRS had grown too large for Mary's home office and so re-located
at 14 Cross Street in Dundas. Under Mary's leadership and
encouragement, DRS now employs four on-road therapists and two
full-time office personnel. Yearly courses and upgrading directly
applicable to Road Trauma Treatment and Recovery are a mandatory part
of maintaining the credential of "Driving Therapist". This
regular upgrading program offered by the Road Safety Educators Association,
our accreditating body, continues to keep our treatment protocol
relative and effective in meeting the needs of the individual client.
Our Driving Therapists are well-qualified professionals in
the field of
Road Trauma Rehabilitation. We are NOT 'driving
instructors'.
Each of our Driving Therapists has been closely
supervised throughout an intensive study program and on-road training
courses. As a result, DRS can offer clients an experienced,
knowledgeable and compassionate staff who are dedicated to the task of
helping victims of road trauma regain their confidence, skill, quality
of life and independence.
